04: Deliver your routes to traveling and non-domain joined machines

In the previous video we made a series of routes. We saw them work through group policy to our endpoints. In this video, well, we’ve got a different problem. We’ve got a non-domain joined machine and I’ll go ahead and prove to you that it’s non-domain joined. You can see he’s in a work group and he’s hanging out. And he’s got all the right same browsers that we all use. Wouldn’t it be great to get your desired routes over to your non-domain joined machines? And we can do that with PolicyPak Cloud. Once you’ve got your routes defined, simply right click and export that collection as an XML. I’ll go ahead and save it to my desktop. I’ll call it PPBR Export one or something like that. So, now it’s hanging out on the desktop and we can even see it if we want to. It’s right here. And this is PolicyPak Cloud. What we want to do is say whatever computer is, for instance, in the travelling sales laptops group we want to take that XML file.

So, we’ll go ahead and upload this XML file and link it to a computer group. So, I’ll go ahead and select that PPBR Export that we already established. We’re just uploading it. I’ll call this route 1. So, now I’m uploading it and linking it over to my travelling sales laptops group and that’s it. We’re ready to go. We have no computers in this travelling sales laptops group, but this computer’s about to get there. So, all we’re going to do – we’re going to install the PolicyPak Cloud client. He’s going to join PolicyPak Cloud. And don’t forget when you join PolicyPak Cloud you don’t just get browser router policies. You get all group policy settings. So, that’s admin templates, that’s group policy preferences and that’s also security settings not to mention other PolicyPak things like managing applications and also things like browser router. So, here in this example you can see that he’s joined the following group called “All” and also “Unassigned.” No problem.

That just means we have to move him from the “All” group which will be hanging out here to the travelling sales laptops group. Let’s just go ahead and refresh and make sure we have the latest data here. Alright, so I’ll go back to travelling sales laptops. We’re going to assign a computer to a group. We’re going to go ahead and find the right one. Actually we can trim this to make this a little easier to find fast. And there it is. This desktop computer, we saw that name earlier. We’ll go ahead and click add. And now this computer – okay – is going to get these policies. The only policy I’m demonstrating here is this browser router policy. Again, that could be anything that we support which is every group policy item, every PolicyPak item and now browser router items. Let’s go back to this machine. We’ll go ahead and run ppcloud/sync. This will sync with the cloud.

We’ll automatically do this every hour anyway, but just in this example here we’ll just be sure to get the latest, greatest updates. Now that that’s done you can see that we have in fact embraced the browser router route one policy. We can see that that’s a group we’re a member of. I’ll go ahead and close this out here. Go ahead and close this out here. So, let’s go ahead and test this out. Let’s go ahead and run Internet Explorer first and it doesn’t matter if we’re in Internet Explorer or not if we decide we want to go to the website BBB.com which will of course render best in Firefox. Well, as soon as we click it here – boom it routes right over to Firefox just as we might expect. If we are in Firefox and we want to go to CCC.com which, of course, will render best in Chrome. What will happen? Boom. We will launch Chrome.

Now, because we are not domain joined you should note that you may get prompted this one time if you’re non-domain joined to enable the extension here. Okay and boom. At that point we’re good to go. So, if we wanted to go back to BBB.com, okay, it will send us back to Firefox from Chrome and so on and so forth. We could go back to AAA.com from Firefox to Internet Explorer so crossing and going and routing to any browser even to non-domain joined machines. That is PolicyPak browser router.
